Harold C. Sherwood Jr

PETERSHAM – Harold C. “Hank” Sherwood Jr., 92, of 15 West Street, died peacefully Monday evening, July 25, 2016 at his residence with his family at his side.
He was born in Worcester on April 21, 1924, son of the late Harold C. and Doris (Nordmark) Sherwood and lived in Petersham for many years.
Hank proudly served his country as a member of the United States Naval Air Corps during World War Two and Naval Reserves in Korea. He later graduated from Hobart College, New York with a degree in Economics. He continued his education by taking other courses.
Hank was a sales representative in the tri-state area for Starrett Tools until his retirement. Following his retirement, he owned and operated an antique shop from his residence with his first wife. An avid outdoorsman, he loved fishing, hunting and hiking. He also enjoyed playing and watching golf. He was a member of North Quabbin Anglers, American Legion in Orange, Elks Lodge in Orange and the VFW in Athol.
Hank was preceded in death by two wives. His first wife, Mae Elizabeth (Fowler) Sherwood, died in 1994 and his second wife, Elizabeth (LaPlante) Sherwood died in October of last year. He leaves a daughter, Abigail L. Sherwood and her significant other, Bob Guignard of Petersham; nieces and nephews, John and Alecia Sherwood, Peter and Mary Sherwood, Meg and Skip Green, Diana and David Rice; brother in law Bill Reece and children and niece Jane; two stepdaughters, Connie Helstowski and husband Stan of Athol and Patricia Tourigny of Ashburnham and their children; Danny, Kristen and Madelin, children of a late stepdaughter,Corinne Ayotte; two great grandchildren and many good friends. In addition to his wives and stepdaughter; he was predeceased by a brother, Richard C. Sherwood and his wife Grace and two sisters, Margaret Fernando and her husband Vinnie and Elizabeth Ann Sherwood.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 10:30 AM in Petersham Congregational Church, 21 North Main Street, Petersham. A reception will follow at the American Legion in Orange.
