ROYALSTON - Harriett McElveen Thomas, 86, of Royalston, MA., passed away peacefully August 30th,2007. Born December 10,1920, Harriett spent her childhood in Ashville, NC, where she would meet and marry her late husband, Donald. During their life together, she and Don lived in Pittsburgh, PA. (where their three daughters were born), Ann Arbor, MI, Carrollton, KY, Columbus, OH, Myrtle Beach, SC and Royalston, MA. Harriett was an accomplished writer, having authored several books and short stories. Her humanitarian nature was evident in the numerous charities to which she dedicated her time. While living in Carrollton, KY, Harriett founded both the Carroll County Community Center and the Button and Bows Club. No matter where she lived, she continued to help others less fortunate than herself. Harriett will be remembered as a loving wife and Mother, who cherished her daughters, their families and the time she was able to spend in Royalston near her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her husband of 60 years, Donald S. Thomas, died in 2005. She leaves three daughters, Suzanne T. Reegler of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA., Joan T. Johnson of Columbus, OH and Nancy T. Monette of Royalston, with whom she resided,; a brother, Clinton "Bub" McElveen of Ashville, NC, three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place in the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimers Program at North Quabbin Adult Day Care Center, care of Gardner Visiting Nursing Association, 34 Pearly Lane, Gardner, MA. 01440.
