WINCHENDON - Helen E. (Madigan) Sullivan, 84, of 115 Ipswich Drive, died peacefully Wednesday evening, December 30th, in Legend Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, Gardner. She was born in Groton on July 10,1925, the daughter of the late James H. and Catherine R. (MacNeil) Madigan and had lived in Winchendon since 1960. Helen was a former self employed hairdresser and day care provider until her retirement. Very active in the Winchendon community, Helen was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and was a past president of its former Holy Family Sodality. She was a past president of the Winchendon Golden Age Club and past president of the Ipswich Drive Tenant's Council. Helen had served as a member of the Winchendon School Committee for nine years. She was past Chairman of the Democratic Town Committee and was a member of Eugene M. Connor Post 905 American Legion Auxiliary and Lt. Frederick Wilder White Post 2158 VFW Auxiliary. Helen was a former trustee of Mt. Wachusett Community College from 1986 to 1991, appointed by Governor Michael Dukakis. Her husband, Philip J. Sullivan, died in 2002. She leaves a son Edward J. Sullivan and his wife Fran of Leominster; two grandchildren, Mariette Sullivan and Gabriel Sullivan and several nephews and nieces. Four brothers, James Madigan, Bernard Madigan, Joseph Madigan and Francis Madigan, all predeceased her. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Burial will be in the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Winchendon EMT Ambulance Fund, PO Box 125, Winchendon, MA. 01475.
