Herbert S. Moore

GARDNER - Herbert S. Moore, 80, of 283 Matthews Street, Gardner, died peacefully Sunday morning, May 10th, in HealthAlliance Hospital, Leominster Campus. He was born in Westminster on February 27,1929, the son of the late Edward and Gladys W. (Hunter) Moore and lived in Westminster for several years. He later lived in South Royalston and Ashburnham before moving to Gardner in 1956. Herbie first worked for B&M Railroad for many years and later owned his own garage in Gardner, called Moore's Atlantic. He later worked as a furniture worker for many years in various furniture factories, including Heywood Wakefield, Davis Lumber, Modern Contract Furniture and C.H. Harshorn's until his retirement. During the Korean War, he proudly served as a Private First Class in the United States Army. He served in both Korea and Germany. He was a member of Ovila Case Post 905 VFW and the 40 and Under Bass Club. Herb was a former member of the Royalston Fish and Gun Club. His hobbies included playing cards, attending flea markets and auctions, camping and fishing. He leaves his wife of 55 years, Dorothy L. (Kangas) Moore; four children, Katherine A. Moore of Gardner, John S. Moore and his wife Tanya of Royalston, William G. Moore and his wife Susan of Gardner and Lucille A. Jankowski and her husband Paul of Orange; two brothers, Raymond G. Moore of Westminster and Morris M. Moore of Leominster; two sisters, Virginia G. Rines of Fitchburg and Helen A. Harrington of Winchendon; three grandchildren, six great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his other brothers and sisters, Dorothy A. Frazier, Robert E. Moore, Edward Moore, George T. Moore, Gordon H. Moore, Richard A. Moore, Kenneth J. Moore, Joan A. Watson, Paul F. Moore and Karen L. Fitzpatrick. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 14th at 10 A.M. in the Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon. The Rev. James Hinds, pastor of First Baptist Church, Gardner, will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon. Calling hours in the funeral home will be Wednesday, May 13th from 6 to 8 P.M.
