WINCHENDON – Howard N. Monette, 90, of 118 Ipswich Drive, died peacefully Monday evening, July 21st in Heywood Hospital, Gardner following a short illness.

A lifelong resident of Winchendon, he was born on November 12, 1923, son of the late Edgard and Hazel (McPhee) Monette.

Howard worked for many years as a machine operator for Millipore Corporation in Jaffrey until his retirement in 1986.  During World War Two, he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army.  He was awarded the EAMET Campaign Ribbon, American Theatre Ribbon, and GC Medal.  He enjoyed walking and spending time with his family.

His wife of 62 years, Gladys H. (Sa’Doques) Monette, died in 2006.  He leaves four children, Tracy J. Monette and his wife Nancy of Winchendon, Gary J. Monette of Tuscon, Arizona; Karen J. Cormier and her husband Roger of Gardner and Linda B. Woodward and her husband Jesse Squier of Spring Hill, Florida; four brothers, Robert E. Monette of Athol, Richard E. Monette of Winchendon, Frederick Monette of Winchendon and Norman K. Monette of Winchendon; six grandchildren,  Jennifer Tyros, Jason Monette, Jessica Monette and Joshua Monette, all of Winchendon and Gail Eastmond of Spring Hill, FL and Rebecca Ienn of Lincoln, Nebraska; four great grandchildren, Sophia Tyros of Winchendon, Holly Eastmond of Spring Hill, FL, Madison Ienn and Miranda Ienn,  and many nieces and nephews.  A son, Randy H. Monette, two grandchildren, Holly Woodward and Shane Stender, and a sister, Eleanor L. Nadeau, predeceased him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, August 5th at 10 A.M. in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 52 Spruce Street.  Burial, with military honors, will follow in Massachusetts Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery.  There are no calling hours.
