GARDNER – Jackie W. “Jack” Shick, 82, of 81 Edgell Street, died peacefully Saturday morning, February 21st in UMASS Medical Center, University Campus, Worcester.
He was born in Youngstown, Ohio on April 1, 1932, son of the late Homer and Cleda (Orr) Shick and had lived in Gardner for many years.
Jack was a graduate of Tennessee Military Institute, Youngstown State University and attended Kent State University for his Masters Degree. He worked for several years as office manager of Van Huffel Eastern, now known as Kirk Eastern, in Gardner until his retirement. Active in Masonic organizations, Jack was a member of Old Eerie Lodge#3 in Warren, Ohio, Ivanhoe Commandery, Council, Royal Arch Chapter and Aleppo Temple Shrine in Wilmington. He was past president of Gardner Shrine Club. Jack was also a member of First Congregational Church, Westminster and a member of the former Gardner Boat Club. Jack had played the trumpet for The Stardusters. His hobbies included playing tennis and spending time with his family.
He leaves his wife of 61 years, Margaret Ann (Wilson) Shick; four children, Debra Ann Bush and her husband Bradley of East Templeton, Grier A. Shick and his wife Patricia of Hubbardston, John W. Shick and his wife Christin of Arvada, Colorado and Megan E. Johnson and her husband Douglas of Cheshire, CT; a sister, Beverly Donley of Warren, Ohio; four grandchildren, four great grandchildren, seven step grandchildren and 9 step great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, February 26th at 11 A.M. in First Congregational Church, 138 Main Street, Westminster. A calling hour will precede the service in church from 10 to 11 A.M. Thursday.
