WINCHENDON - Janet R. (LaFalam) Austin, 84, of 133B Ipswich Drive, Winchendon, died Friday morning, September 15th in the Wachusett Manor Nursing Home in Gardner. She was born in Killingly, Connecticut on August 2,1922, the daughter of Frank and Virginia (Rosbury) LaFalam and had lived in Winchendon for most of her life. Janet worked as a cook for several years at Franklin Pierce College in Rindge, New Hampshire until her retirement in 1979. She was the owner-operator of local restaurants, including the former Clam Shack and Henry's Diner. She was a 1940 graduate of Murdock High School. She was a communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and a member of the Ipswich Drive Tenants Council. An avid Red Sox fan for many years, she also enjoyed knitting, cooking and playing bingo. Her husband of 49 years, Teddy R. Austin, died in 1990. She leaves two children, Helen I. Sibley of Winchendon and Bernard J. Austin; two sisters, Virginia O'Malley of Winchendon and Caroline Morlock of Fitchburg; four grandchildren, Joel A. Sibley, Jamie A. Williams, Michael A. Sibley and Brian J. Austin, a great grandson, Maxmillian Williams and several nephews, nieces and cousins. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 19th from the Snow-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 52 Spruce Street. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours in the funeral home will be Monday, September 18th from 6 to 8 P.M.
