Jean C. Collins

FITCHBURG - Jean C. Collins, 90, of Fitchburg went home to her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ on  Sunday morning, January 21, 2018, after a courageous battle with cancer and dementia.

She was born in Guilford, VT on August 30, 1927, daughter of the late Lawrence and Hazel (Thompson) Canedy.  She grew up in Guilford and graduated from Brattleboro High School.  Jean had been a resident of Fitchburg for 70 years.

Jean worked for the City of Fitchburg public schools as a cafeteria worker and cafeteria manager.  She had worked at the former B.F. Brown Junior High School, Reingold Elementary School and Memorial Junior High School.  She had been an active member of West Fitchburg Methodist Church and Faith United Parish of Fitchburg.  She and her husband enjoyed traveling around the United States.  She also enjoyed gardening, cooking, and bird watching.  She will be remembered as a great wife, mother,  grandmother and a treasured friend of many.

She leaves her husband of 71 years, Wendell S. Collins; six children,  Mary Jean Cashman of Ft. Mill, SC, Donna Randolph and her husband Todd of Windsor, SC, Dana Collins and his wife Debra of Ft. Wayne, IN, Wendell S. Collins Jr and his wife Julie of Pella, Iowa, Scott Collins and his wife Katherine of Lunenburg and Sheri Whitcomb and her husband David of Orange; 13 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 26, 2018 at 1 P.M.in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon.

Burial will follow in Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon.

A calling hour will precede the funeral on Friday from 12 to 1 P.M.
