Joel T. Powers

WINCHENDON - Joel T. Powers, 25, of 16 Northern Heights Drive, Winchendon, died Sunday evening, March 7th in Winchendon from injuries suffered in a motor vehicle accident. He was born in Warwick, RI on November 15,1984 and had lived in Winchendon for 7 years. Joel worked as a registered nurse at Heywood Hospital in Gardner for one year. He previously worked at Gardner Animal Care as a certified veterinary tech and at Wachusett Manor Nursing Home. He was a graduate of the Prout School in Wakefield, RI. He later received his Associates Degree in Veterinary Science from Becker College and his Nursing Degree from Mount Wachusett Community College. He was a member of the Massachusetts Nursing Association. Joel loved the ocean, gardening, traveling south, animals, ceramics and the arts. He leaves his husband of one year, Richard K. "Ricky" Ward, 2nd; his father, Richard Powers of Harwich; his mother and stepfather, Anne M. (Masso) Powers Masse and Kevin Masse of West Kingston, RI; one brother Peter Masse of West Kingston, RI; four sisters, Julie Powers of Providence, RI, Rayna Powers of Charlestown, RI, Nicole (Masse) Cresser of West Warwick, RI and Gabrielle Masse of West Kingston, RI; his maternal grandparents, Theodore and Lucille Masse; two nephews, Rowan and Sam, his dog Tobi and cat Fluffy. Joel also leaves a large extended family. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 12th from Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 A.M. in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 52 Spruce Street. Calling hours in the funeral home will be Thursday, March 11th from 5 to 8 P.M.
