WINCHENDON - John Steves, 97, of 175 Second Street, Winchendon Springs, died peacefully Sunday morning, November 21st, in Baldwinville Nursing Home, with his family at his side.
He was born in B. Baixa, Portugal on April 25, 1913, the son of the late Manuel and Maria (Esteves) Oliveira and had lived in Winchendon since 1940. John was an Army veteran of World War Two, serving with the 8th tank battalion with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a member of Eugene M. Connor Post 193 American Legion and Lt. Frederick Wilder White Post 2158 VFW. John was an avid Red Sox fan and loved deep sea fishing.
He leaves his wife, Amelia T. (Antognoni) Steves; a daughter, Brenda L. Rosengren and her husband Ronald of Gardner; three grandchildren, Scott Rosengren, Wendy Janerico and her husband Joseph and Brian Rosengren and his fiance Kira Favreau; two great grandchildren, Sean and Kelly; a sister, Maria DeCampos of Portugal and many nephews and nieces.
A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family.
There are no calling hours.
