GARDNER – John R. “Jack” Romanson, 82, of 162 Blanchard Street, died peacefully Monday afternoon, February 16th in Health Alliance Hospital, Leominster, with his family at his side.
He was born in Gardner on September 2, 1932, son of the late John and Bertha (Bosley) Romanson and graduated from Gardner High School in 1950.
Following high school, Jack entered the United States Navy and proudly served his country during the Korean War. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Navy Occupation Service Medal (European Clasp).
Jack worked as traffic manager at the former Nichols and Stone Furniture Company for 42 years until his retirement. He then worked part time at H&R Industries and Gardner Motor Parts. He was a member of the American Legion Post #129 in Gardner, Tin Can Destroyers Association and National Rifle Association. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family.
His wife of 46 years, Joan M. (Porko) Romanson, died in 2004. He leaves five children, Robert J. Romanson of Gardner, Richard J. Romanson of Royalston, Roxanne J. Schindler of Winchendon, Robynn J. Bellofatto and her husband Peter of Hubbardston and Rana J. Matthews and her husband Douglas of Leominster; 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. A daughter, Rhonda Romanson, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 21st at 10 A.M. in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon. The Rev. Francis A. Roberge will officiate. Burial will be in Green Bower Cemetery, Gardner. There are no calling hours.
