WINCHENDON – Josephine “Josie” (Shields) Girouard, 68, of 51 Elmwood Road, Winchendon, died unexpectedly Tuesday, January 10th in Heywood Hospital, Gardner.
She was born in Boston, MA on January 24, 1943, the daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret (Galligan) Shields and had lived in Winchendon for 32 years.
Josie worked for many years as a waitress. She first worked at Margies Restaurant in Jaffrey, NH and then worked for several years at The Donut Shop in Winchendon, where she was loved by her customers. A graduate of Our Lady of Monadnock Academy in Jaffrey, Josie enjoyed life and especially enjoyed spending time with her family. Josie enjoyed traveling, shopping and dining out. She had taken cruises in the Carribean and visited Hawaii. She also enjoyed going to Maine.
She leaves her husband of 32 years, Raymond E. Girouard; four children, Robin A. Rivard-Bussiere and her husband Kenneth of Jaffrey, Wendy Lynn Duval and her husband John of Rindge, Kristopher Charles Girouard and his wife Michelle of Terryville, CT and Julie T. Hines and her husband James of Auburn; a sister, Marjorie Shields Desmarais of Jaffrey; seven grandchildren, Joshua, Ashley, Brianna, Meghan, Jimmy, Gabriella and John and several nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 13th at 10 AM in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon. The Rev. Francis A. Roberge will officiate.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
Calling hours in the funeral home will be Thursday, January 12th from 6 to 8 PM.
