GARDNER – Joseph V. Visconti, 86, of 146 Brookside Drive, Gardner died peacefully Saturday afternoon, August 25th in Legend Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Gardner, with his family at his side.
He was born in Medford on February 14, 1926, the son of the late Domenic and Tina (Amaru) Visconti and graduated from Medford High School and Northeastern University. Joseph lived in Sherborn for 25 years, and in Gardner for five years before retiring to Sunrise, FL. Two years ago, he returned to Gardner.
Joe was a senior mechanical engineer for Dennison Corp. and Delphax Systems and prior to that owned many mechanical shops over the years. An avid outdoorsman, he loved to hunt and fish and he also enjoyed gardening. A very generous man, he loved kids and his family was always first and foremost. He had a wonderful sense of humor and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In 1944, he enlisted in the United States Army and he became a nose gunner on the 370th Bombardment Squadron. He flew 26 missions and was awarded six air medals and a Purple Heart. At the end of WWII he became part of the Military Police.
He leaves five children, Joseph Visconti Jr of Milford, NH, Mark Visconti of Milford, NH, Cheryl A LaFortune of Worcester, TinaMarie Visconti of Beverly Hills, CA and Constance Brown and her husband Alan of Gardner; a stepdaughter Linda Lebert of Worcester; a stepson, Albert LaFortune of Shrewsbury; a sister, Jeanette Haddad of Medford, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews and nieces. He was especially close with grandsons Thomas, Joseph and Jack Budzinski and new triplet grandsons, Ben, Billy and Bobby Brown. Five brothers, Frank, Edward, Robert, William and James Visconti, a sister Charlene, a stepdaughter, Marie Proctor and his longtime companion, Constance LaFortune, predeceased him.
Military funeral services will be held Friday, August 31st at 3 P.M. in the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon. The Rev. Francis A. Roberge will officiate. There are no calling hours.
