Joyce N. Tobey

ASHBURNHAM – Joyce N. (Mills) Tobey 84, of Ashburnham and formerly of Melrose, died peacefully at the home of her daughter in Ashby on Thursday morning, November 12th.

She was born in Somerville on September 19, 1931, daughter of the late John G. and Caroline B. (Mills) Mills.  Joyce grew up in Somerville and graduated from Somerville High School.  She and her late husband, Walter, raised their family in Melrose and moved to Ashburnham following their retirement.  Joyce had worked at John Hancock and Consolidated Foods and enjoyed traveling with her husband.

Her husband of 61 years, Walter L. Tobey, died in 2014.  She leaves seven children, Allen W. Tobey and his wife Kathryn of Princeton, Nancy E. LaCroix and her husband Paul of Ashby, Sandra L Higgins and her husband Philip of Windham, NH, Linda J. Tobey of Fitchburg, Ronald J. Tobey of Florida, June M. Carr and her husband William of Petersham and Ellen G. Marcoux and her husband Todd of Pepperell; fourteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren.  She also leaves her brothers and sisters, Jean Loveless of Arlington, John Mills of New Hampshire, Gerald Mills of Florida and Diane McDonough, as well as many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by two brothers, Vincent Mills and Clayton Mills and a sister, Joan Crowell.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 16th at 11 A.M. in Massachusetts Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon.  There are no calling hours.

Memorial donations may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 51 Blossom Street, Boston, MA 02114.
