BLACKSBURG, VA. - Julia O. (Martin) Guenette, formerly of Winchendon, Fitchburg and Gardner, died peacefully on January 20th just one month shy of her 101st birthday.
Julia was born in Winchendon on February 19, 1912, daughter of the late Fred J. and Anastasia (Menard) Martin and graduated from Murdock High School in 1932 and Henry Heywood Hospital School of Nursing in 1936. For the past year she was a resident of Kroontje Health Care Center in Blacksburg, VA, where she had moved to be closer to her family.
Julia was a registered nurse for many years and was a former nursing supervisor at Heywood Hospital in Gardner and Naukeag Hospital in Ashburnham until her retirement in 1974. She was a former member in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Winchendon Garden Club, Winchendon Historical Society, Winchendon Golden Age Club and Heywood Hospital Alumni Association.
Her husband of 26 years, Albert J. Guenette, died in 1966. She leaves a son, Martin D. Guenette and his wife Marcy of Blacksburg, VA, three grandchildren, Denis Guenette of Blacksburg, VA, Julie Ann Guenette Young of Half Moon Bay, CA, and Michael Guenette of Bourne, MA, three great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Julia was predeceased by her brothers Maurice, Leo, Alfred, Paul, Ulysses and Marshall, and her sisters Wilhelmina Gaviorno, Alfreda Gingras, and Anita Dack. Also left to cherish her memory is her good friend Helen Laflamme of Gardner.
A graveside service in Riverside Cemetery, Winchendon, will be held this summer at a time and date to be determined by family. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of ones choice.
