WINCHENDON – Kenneth M. Donaway, 76, of 119 Ipswich Drive, died peacefully in Heywood Hospital, Gardner on Friday evening, October 5th, with his family at his side.
He was born in Winchendon on January 4, 1936, son of the late Maurice A. and Julia (Goula) Donaway and was a lifelong resident of Winchendon.
Ken had worked as a woodworker at the former H&R Gun Shop for 38 years. He proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and earned the National Defense Service Medal. He was a member of Cornerstone Church of the Assemblies of God and Eugene M. Connor Post 193 American Legion. Ken enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots, as well as hunting and fishing in his earlier years. He had earned his GED degree from Mt. Wachusett Community College.
He leaves his wife of 49 years, Gail A. (Robideau) Donaway; a son, Kenneth M. Donaway, Jr of Gardner; four grandchildren, Jonathan Lema Jr and his fiancé Sarah Wells, Joshua Lema, Patrick Donaway and Hayley Donaway; two great grandchildren Alivia Lema and Landon Lema; three sisters, Phyllis L. Guy of Winchendon and Nancy A. Field of Winchendon and Anna M. Jarvenpaa of Phillipston and several nieces and nephews. A daughter, Sally Lema, predeceased him in 1997.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 9th at 11 A.M. in Cornerstone Church of the Assemblies of God, 122 Gardner Road, Winchendon. Calling hours will be held in the church Tuesday, October 9th from 10 to 11 A.M. preceding the funeral. Burial, with military honors, will be in Riverside Cemetery.
