SWANZEY, NH – Leo J. Richard, 89, of 57 Homestead Avenue, Swanzey, died peacefully Wednesday evening, April 9th in Bradford, VT.
He was born in Gardner, MA on March 29, 1925, son of the late Alban and Anna (Richard) Richard. He had lived in West Swanzey for 15 years and previously lived in Florida.
A welder and carpenter, Leo had worked as a construction superintendent for McMillan Construction Co. in Keene for several years until his retirement. During World War Two, he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. Leo was a life member of Templeton Fish and Game Club and was a former member of American Legion and Lodge of Elks in Keene, NH. Leo was also a gifted painter and had done many paintings.
His wife of 61 years, Geralda M. (Desmarais) Richard, died in 2012. She leaves a daughter, Lana Adamson and her husband Michael of Swanzey; a son, Stephen Leo Richard and his wife Janice of Manchester, NH; six grandchildren, Alexander, Anthony, Gabriel. Jeremy, Benjamin and Megan and his eleven great grandchildren, Nicole, Jessica, Abigail, Hunter, Jeremy Jr, Natasha, Kaiya, Addison, Dawson, Ella and Dean and a sister, Irene Martin of Winchendon as well as two special nieces, Dianna Homoleski and Dawn Turski. He was predeceased by his daughter, Lisa Richard; his brother, Ronald Richard, and his half brothers and half sisters, Edgard Arsenault "Doc Snow", Edmond Arsenault, Adrien Arsenault, Doris Woodward, Aurele Richard and Rosimond Richard.
A private military funeral will be held in Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon. There are no calling hours.
