WINCHENDON - Leon A. Caouette, 78, of 170 Glenallen Street, died Sunday morning, February 17th in Heywood Hospital, Gardner. He was born in Winchendon on March 9,1929, the son of Napoleon L. and Elizabeth (Boisvert) Caouette, and was a lifelong resident of Winchendon. Leon was a foreman for the State of Massachusetts Highway Department for many years until his retirement in 1994. He was a Korean War veteran, proudly serving as a Corporal in the United States Army. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Eugene M. Connor Post 193 American Legion, Lt. Frederick Wilder White Post 2158 Veterans of Foreign Wars and the former Knights of Columbus, all of Winchendon. Leon was a sports enthusiast, enjoying all sports, including horse racing. His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his family. He leaves his wife of 52 years, Marjorie D. (Meattey) Caouette; two sons, Leon Caouette, Jr. of Winchendon and Edward J. Caouette and his wife, Ana Contreras of Winchendon; one grandson, Jeremy Caouette and several nephews and nieces. Funeral services in the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon will be private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
