WINCHENDON – Leon A. “Pop” Paul, 79, of 59 Eastwood Circle, Gardner, formerly of Winchendon, died Friday afternoon, April 1 st in University of Massachusetts Medical Center, Worcester, with his family at his side.
He was born in Winchendon on February 3, 1932, son of the late Napoleon and Eva (Duval) Paul and lived in Winchendon for most of his life.
Leon owned and operated the former L. Paul Lumber Co. in Winchendon for thirty years. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army, during the Korean War. Leon was a member of Eugene M. Connor Post 193 American Legion. His two passions were his love of his family and a love for horses. He was an avid horseman, who pulled draft horses.
He leaves six children, Richard Paul and his wife Paula of Royalston, Karen Marinelli of Lunenburg, Sherry Hamilton of Athol, David Paul and his wife Donna of Orange, T.J. Paul of Leigheigh Acres, FL and Joseph Paul and his wife Sandi of Wells, ME; two sisters, Marion May of Winchendon and Lorraine Darcy of Kenneth City, FL; 11 grandchildren, two great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by brothers and sisters, Napoleon “Poly” Paul, Arthur Paul, Pauline Loomis, Lena “Johney” Roy, Irene Bosworth, Diana “Dina” Creed and Maurice Paul.
Military funeral services will be held Monday, April 11 th at 11 A.M. in the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street. The Rev. Francis A. Roberge will officiate.
