Lillian D. (Sevigny) DiVirgilio

WINCHENDON - Lillian D. (Sevigny) DiVirgilio, 85, formerly of 102 Highland Street, Winchendon, died peacefully Saturday evening, December 25th, in the Hadley at Elaine Care and Rehabilitation Center in Hadley, MA., with her family at her side.

She was born in Winchendon on June 5, 1925, the daughter of the late Joseph R. and Marie D. (Plante) Sevigny, and was a lifelong resident of Winchendon until moving to Hadley four years ago.

Lillian worked as a cook many years ago in the Winchendon school system and later worked as a waitress at the Old Travelers Restaurant. After earning her GED, she worked for many years as a teacher's aide at Memorial School until her retirement in 1987. Following her retirement, she continued to work as a volunteer with kindergarten students. She was affectionately called "Mrs. D." by her students and her fellow teachers. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, where she was a former CCD teacher. Her hobbies were cooking and baking. Her life was her family, and she found her greatest enjoyment from spending time with her late husband, sons and grandchildren.

Her husband of 57 years, Camillo A. "Red" DiVirgilio, died in 2004. She leaves two sons, Philip J. DiVirgilio of Bar Harbor, Maine and Bruce A. DiVirgilio and his wife Mary of Amherst; two grandchildren, Shana Rose of Bakersfield, CA and Evan DiVirgilio of Ashville, North Carolina; two great grandchildren, Ella Rose and Ethan Rose and several nephews and nieces. Three sisters, Marie E. LaPlante, Irene P. Murphy and Aurore Cloutier, predeceased her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, December 29th at 11:30 A.M. in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 52 Spruce Street. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon are Wednesday, December 29th from 10 to 11 A.M.
