Lindsey E. Ford

WINCHENDON, MA — Lindsey E. Ford, 62, died Friday, April 8, 2016 at Wachusett Manor in Gardner, MA after a battle with cancer.  He was born in Keene, NH.

Lindsey leaves a brother, Robert C. Ford Sr. and sister-in-law Sharline A. (Earle) Ford of Gardner, MA; his Aunts Ethel Ford Currie from Medway, MA, Gwendolyn Ford Yardley from Walpole, NH, and Carolyn Ford Rollins from Troy, NH; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.  Lindsey also leaves his beloved cat, Annie Girl, to his niece Laurie.

He was predeceased by his parents, Robert A. Ford and Helen (Gilbert) Ford, and sister, Dawn (Ford) Hyzer.

Lindsey was a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Navy.  During his service, he attended Hospital Corps Class A and Field Medical Service schools as well as Shipboard Instructor and Naval Instructor courses.  He served as a Radiation Health Technician for 15 years and retired as a Chief Petty Officer (E7).  He received numerous decorations, medals and campaign ribbons over his 20-year service, including two National Defense Service Medals, two meritorious unit commendations, the Navy achievement medal, enlisted surface warfare specialist breast insignia, the Navy expeditionary medal, three sea service deployments, the master training specialist certificate and medallion, five good conduct awards, the armed forces expeditionary medal and the Navy overseas service ribbon. He enjoyed the time he spent on the USS Truxtun CGN-35. Lindsey had a great respect for the military and was immensely proud of his career.

After he retired, Lindsey lived and worked in Las Vegas, NV for 22 years.  He returned to Massachusetts in the fall of 2014 to be near his family.  Lindsey was kind and thoughtful, and would often make you laugh with his silly jokes (“Ford” humor)!  He enjoyed spending time with his brother and the rest of the Ford family.

Lindsey attended the Community College of Southern Nevada and the University of Nevada Las Vegas where he majored in U.S. Western History and minored in Cultural Anthropology.

Calling hours will be held Friday, April 15th from 12:30 to 1:30 PM in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street.

Military funeral services will be follow at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street  at 2 PM Friday..

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery,  payable to the Friends of the Veterans Cemetery, PO Box 264, Winchendon, MA 01475.
