WINCHENDON - Louis A. "Pete" Morneau, 84, of 26 Spring Street, Winchendon, died Wednesday, May 31st in Heywood Hospital, Gardner following an illness. He was born in Quincy on June 29,1921, the son of Henry A. and Christine M. (Locke) Morneau and had lived in Winchendon for most of his life. Pete was Superintendent of the Winchendon Department of Public Works before his retirement in 1985. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War Two and was a 50 year member of the Eugene M. Connor Post 193 American Legion. He was a life member of the Winchendon Rod and Gun Club. Pete enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and was a former state champion archer. He used to enjoy bowling and auto ice racing. He leaves his wife of 62 years, Pearl I. (Enwright) Morneau; two daughters, Cindy L. Morneau and Paula A. Hopkins, both of Winchendon; a brother, Donald A. Morneau of Winchendon, and several nephews and nieces. Following cremation, a private graveside service will be held in Riverside Cemetery at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West, Floor 6, Brookline, MA. 02445-9924.
