WINCHENDON – Mary E. (Guy) Chagnon, 91, of Winchendon, died peacefully Wednesday evening, February 9, 2022 at her residence, with her family at her side.
She was born in Winchendon on November 3, 1930, daughter of the late Wilfred D. and Mary Bella (Latuch) Guy and was a graduate of Murdock High School.
Mary worked as a seamstress many years ago at the former Winchendon Dress Shop. Known affectionately as “Meme”, she had been a day care provider for over 70 children through the years, at her home. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Church, Baldwinville. For years, she and her late husband were season ticket holders for the New England Patriots and were members of the Quarterback Club. Mary loved summer vacations in Maine and also enjoyed sewing, cooking and doing crossword puzzles.
Her husband of 58 years, Lawrence A. Chagnon, died in 2012. She leaves five children, Lawrence A. Chagnon Jr. and his wife Corinne of Winchendon, David W. Chagnon and wife Jennifer of Winchendon, Paula M. Girard and husband Gary of Winchendon, John W. Chagnon of Worcester and Cynthia A. LaFreniere and husband Todd of Baldwinville; ten grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brothers and sisters, Wilfred D. Guy Jr., Alfred Guy, Bertram Arens, Elvera Mitchell, Bernice Kushmick and Lillian St. Laurent.
Funeral services will be private. Burial will be in Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery.
