GARDNER – Matthew P. “Thumper” Maroni, 40, of 163 Washington Street, died Thursday evening, March 12th at his residence.
He was born in Athol on July 27, 1974 and attended Narragansett Regional High School, where he was a member of its football team. While growing up, Thumper played little league baseball as a catcher.
Thumper earned his GED and attended Mt Wachusett Community College for nurse’s aide training. Following his courses, he did home care nursing. In recent years, he worked in loss prevention for several local retailers, including Wal Mart, JC Penney, Dick’s, and Home Depot. His hobby was collecting World War Two memorabilia. Thumper was well liked by everyone. He was very devoted to his friends and family and was a great father.
He leaves his companion and wife of 14 years, Katy Graves of Gardner; his mother, Christina L. Gemborys of Templeton; his children, Christian Maroni of Fitzwilliam, NH, Mickey Maroni and Anthony Maroni of Gardner;; a brother, William Maroni and his wife Melissa of Winchendon; a sister, Malissa Mazza and her husband Jeremy of Athol; his father, Louis Maroni and his wife Darlene of Orange; a stepbrother John Johnson of Athol, two stepsisters, Jill Ouellette of Barre and Joy Agnelli of Gardner; his best friend and sidekick Philip Erkskine of Gardner and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. His father, Walter Gemborys of Templeton died three months ago and his stepbrother, Jason Gemborys, died three years ago.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 21st at 11 A.M. in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon. A reception will follow in Royalston Fish and Gun Club.
