Muriel N. (Carpenter) Caouette

TEMPLETON – Muriel N. (Carpenter) Caouette, 87, of 61 Dudley Road, died peacefully Thursday afternoon, May 1st at her residence, with her family at her side.

She was born in Plymouth, VT on September 3, 1926, the daughter of the late Earle G. and Lucy I. (DeWolfe) Carpenter and lived in Westminster, MA for most of her life.  For the last nine years, she lived in Templeton, MA, after living at various times in Winchendon, Gardner, and Woodstock and Bridgewater, VT.  Muriel graduated from Woodstock Union High School, Woodstock, VT in 1947 and graduated from Fannie Farmer Cooking School.  In 1985, she received her Associates Degree in Human Services from Mt. Wachusett Community College

Muriel owned and operated Caouette Transcription Service at her residence from 1998-2008.  In earlier years, she worked at Fitchburg General Hospital, for Dr. Joseph Rosenberg, Burbank Hospital, Heywood Hospital, Mt. Elam Extended Care Facility.  Before operating her own business, she worked for 14 years at Mt. Wachusett Community College as Administrative Assistant to the Dean of Human Resources.

Active in civic and fraternal organizations, Muriel was a member and former two time Worthy Matron of Jessamine Chapter #75 Order of Eastern Star.  In 1995, she was the recipient of Grand Chapter Eastern Star Rose Award for “Voluntary Community Service.”  In 2006, she received her 50 year pin and she was former treasurer of its board of trustees.  Muriel was an active member and Past President of The Gardner Museum, a member and former President of Greater Gardner AARP Chair City Chapter, a former member of Templeton and Gardner Council on Aging, a charter president of Worcester County Association of Medical Assistants and charter President of Massachusetts Association of Medical Assistants.  She was also President and Editor of the Alumni Newsletter of Mt. Wachusett Community College Alumni Association.

Her other memberships included Eugene M. Connor Post 193 American Legion Auxiliary, Acoustic Neuroma Association, Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, and memberships in Advisory Board at Montachusett Technical and Vocational Schools.  Her hobbies included writing, word processing, crafts, crocheting, oil painting, collecting teacups, quilting and her pet Chihuahua.

Muriel was predeceased by her husbands, Walter E. Andrews, Ralph H. Harris, and Silvio M. Caouette, as well as her son, Richard R. Harris, who died in 2012.  She leaves a daughter, Patricia L. Lisle of Templeton, with whom she lived; a grandson, Kristopher L. Lisle; a granddaughter, Tawnya M. Harris-Frazier; two great grandchildren, Macie E. Frazier and Preston E. Frazier, a niece, Karole Messier and several nephews; a step granddaughter Carla Fisher, and a daughter in law, Maryanne Harris.  Her siblings, Brock D. Carpenter, Kenneth E. Carpenter and Ruhie L. Thompson, preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 5th at 10 A.M. in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon.  Deacon William M. Griffin will officiate.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Winchendon.

Calling hours in the funeral home are Sunday, May 4th from 5 to 7 P.M.  Members of Jessamine Chapter #75 Order of Eastern Star will conduct services Sunday, May 4th at 6 P.M.
