Murray M. Tuckerman

WINCHENDON – Murray M. Tuckerman, 82, of 156 Monomonac Road West, died peacefully Monday, June 6 th , at his residence.
He was born in Boston on July 19, 1928, the son of the late Bernard and Henrietta (Hornig) Zuckerman and had lived in Winchendon since 1987, after moving from Philadelphia, PA.
Murray was a graduate of Yale University and received his Master’s Degree from Temple University and his Ph.D. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. For many years, Murray was head of the Chemistry Department in the School of Pharmacy at Temple University. He was also a consultant with the F.D.A. and U.S. Pharmacopeia. During a one year sabbatical, he worked for the United Nations World Health Organization for the International Pharmacopeia. Dr. Tuckerman also did research at Sterling Winthrop Laboratories.
Murray enjoyed town politics and was a former member of the Zoning Board in Winchendon. He was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church and Lake Monomonac Lake Association. He was an avid reader of science fiction and especially enjoyed living at the lake and spending time with his family.
His wife of 53 years, Byrde J. (Merican) Tuckerman, died in 2001. He leaves a son, Seth M. Tuckerman and his wife Clara of Malibu, Ca; three daughters, Tabby Rappolt and her husband George of Needham, Susannah E. Blake and her husband James of Lowell and Abigail Tuckerman-Slayton of Westborough; one sister, Joyce Sachs of Woodbridge, CT; eight grandchildren, Angela Tuckerman, Ethan Rappolt, Tara Rivard, Amanda Bergeron, Nelson Blake, Sofia Blake, Thera Slayton and Aliya Slayton; one great granddaughter, Rhiannon Rivard and several nephews and nieces. A brother, Lester Zuckerman, predeceased him.
A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, October 9th, 2011 at 1:30 P.M. in the Unitarian Universalist Church of Winchendon, 126 Central Street, Winchendon. The Rev. Marguerite Sheehan will officiate.
