WINCHENDON – N. Wayne “Papa” Simmers, 66, of 52B Glenallen Street, died unexpectedly Sunday, August 30th in Heywood Hospital, Gardner.
He was born in Fitchburg on September 25, 1948, son of the late Rita Richards. He grew up in Fitchburg and lived in Leominster for many years until moving to Winchendon 24 years ago.
Wayne had worked as a machine operator at Boutwell and Owens Printing Co in Fitchburg for several years. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing hockey. His enjoyed spending time on his computer and mostly enjoyed spending time with his family. He and his late wife were foster parents for many years.
His wife of 39 years, Junetta “Judy” (Flanders) Simmers, died in 2006. He leaves his daughters, Amy M. Simmers-Swanson and her husband Christopher of Winchendon, Nicole M. Simmers of Athol and Elizabeth M. Simmers of Winchendon; a sister, Patricia Fuller of VA; a brother Steven Cormier of VA; a grandson-in-law, Maxx, his dog “Nana”, as well as 15 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. A daughter, Christina M. Ramsay, died in 2013.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, September 2nd at 10 A.M. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner.
Calling hours in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon are Tuesday, September 1st from 5 to 7 P.M.
