Life of Patty Billger
Patricia "Patty" Maureen (Hickey) Billger, 78, resident of Rindge, NH and beloved member of Monadnock Baptist Church was promoted to Heaven while surrounded by her loving family on Monday, February 24th, after an advanced cancer diagnosis.
Patty was born July 21, 1946 in Fitchburg, Massachusetts at Lucy Hellen Hospital. She was the daughter of the late William R. Hickey and Dorothy C. (Gage) Hickey LaDue. Dorothy was one of 12 brothers and sisters giving Patty many special memories with many cousins at their annual Gage Family Picinic and Christmas Sing-A-Longs.
She leaves behind Gordon Jacob Billger (her husband of her last 30 years) and was predeceased by her husband Paul Banks. Patty was also predeceased by her sister Margaret E Hickey and leaves her sister, Dorothy A. (Hickey) Kyle of Lancaster, Roberta E. (Hickey) Stark and her husband Leonard of Missouri and their children Kevin Stark and family and Melanie (Stark) Logan and family. She also leaves behind siblings William Hickey, Robert Hickey, Cathy (Hickey) Lenardo, and Sandra (Hickey) Rivera.
Patty proudly wore the badge of motherhood to many.
She leaves her children Maureen E. (Hartwell) Girard and her husband Mark, Jaime Lee (Hartwell) Bunton and her husband Glenn, Deborah A. (Banks) Flagg and her husband Sam, Roberta (Banks) Mcleod and her husband Robert, Peggy (Banks) Transki and her husband Chris, Rebecca Banks, Hannah (Billger) Segal and her husband Dominic, and Noah Billger and his wife Heather.
Her grandchildren Thomas Girard, Andrew Girard and his wife Lauren, Corey Girard, Leah Bunton, Sarah Bunton, Benjamin Bunton, Patrick McLeod, Ian McLeod, and Emma McLeod, Gina Transki, Gavin Billger, Kami Billger, Oliver Billger, Finley Billger, Dominic Segal, and Kyle Segal were a special treasure to her.
Her extended family Penny Dowdy, Norma Ojanpera, Marie Tasker, David Banks and his wife Cheryl, her plus grandchildren Tony Tasker, Paul Banks, and Sean Banks were also very loved and cared for.
Patty graduated from Oakmont Regional High School in Ashburnham, Massachusetts in 1964 and earned her Secretarial Certificate from the Ward School of Business in Worcester, Massachusetts. After leveraging her bookkeeping skills for Burbank Hospital and Kidder & Davis, Inc. she found her true calling in early childhood education and daycare. Serving as a home daycare provider for Children’s Aid and Family Service in Fitchburg, MA from 1983-1993 and later as lead teacher in the ”twos” room at the daycare at her church, Twin City Baptist Temple located in Lunenburg, Massachusetts. She ministered to many families and children. It was at Twin City Baptist where she met her husband, Jacob Billger, retired army veteran, serving in the Sunday School Bus Ministry. She continued to serve with him as a “Support Missionary” couple at David Bible Baptist Church in David, Panama from 2001 to 2014. In Panama, Patty participated in many church ministries including the orphan girls home, the feeding center, and serving with “doctors without borders” for the Nobe tribe in the mountains while assisting with establishing churches. Patty also had the opportunity to help homeschool the head missionary’s children. This facilitated the desire to help homeschool her own grandchildren upon return to the United States from 2014 to 2022.
Patty was an avid reader of all genres especially spiritual, historical, and classical novels retaining fine details on an array of topics which proved valuable for Scrabble and any random conversation. She enjoyed her sewing projects (in previous years Girl Scout badges for herself and decades later for her granddaughters). She loved crafts, cooking, and baking for her family especially the annual Christmas cookie variety plates which she delivered to friends and family.
