ROYALSTON - Paul Cormier, 49 of Royalston MA, died Wednesday afternoon, December 15th at home surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was strong and continued fighting, right to the end.
Son of Philias and Devita Cormier, Paul was born on July 28, 1961 in Toronto Ontario Canada. He grew up in the "French Hill" area of Leominster and moved to the tranquil woods of Royalston with his wife and daughters in 1987. Paul served as an alter boy at St Cecelia's Parish and attended St Cecelia's Elementary School, grades 1-8. He graduated from Leominster Trade High in 1979, in the machine shop program. He was employed by United Solutions in Leominster for 13 years, until his illness forced him to retire. Prior to that, he worked at Tucker House Wares for many years. He was a loyal and hard worker, who continued working for many months after his diagnosis, until it was no longer possible. And even then.....he still tried to go to work. He was an avid fisherman who spent countless hours fishing and ice fishing or just hanging out with his family on Laurel Lake in Fitzwilliam NH. He was very talented with his hands and could accomplish any project. He once built a tractor out of an old international pick up truck and a fork lift. He always said he loved a good challenge. He enjoyed gardening, puttering around in the yard and working in his shed or on his sawmill, which he built himself. He had looked forward to milling the trees he had cut down and doing some woodworking when he retired. After working with metal, "wood cuts like butter" he'd say. He received many hours of enjoyment trying to grow the "biggest pumpkin" in his garden every year. He especially enjoyed country music and listening to the Sunday morning country oldies full blast from his shed! His greatest joy were his children and grandchildren. Paul was the type of guy who would do anything for anyone, whenever they asked. No matter how busy he was, or how sick he felt. He continued to help people until it was no longer physically possible. He was a kind, loving, caring man, who will be missed dearly by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
He will be sadly missed by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 28 years, Patricia (Moore) Cormier, who was lucky enough to have almost 33 wonderful years together with the love of her life. Two daughters, Jennifer Fowler and her husband Ulysses of Fitchburg and Crystal Shotwell and her husband Matthew of Gardner. A grandson and best friend, 4yr old Tyson Thomas Trimel of Fitchburg. A brand new granddaughter, 17 day old Madisyn Laurel Shotwell of Gardner and another grandchild due in July, that he will sadly never get to meet. Three step grandchildren, Lauren, Ulysses (Bucky) and Derek Fowler of Fitchburg. He also leaves his parents, Philias and Devita Cormier of Ashby. Two brothers and two sisters, Victor Cormier and his wife Sandra of Ashby, Roger Cormier of Leominster, Bertha Braneff and her husband Kris of Ashby and Kathy Cormier of Ashburnham. His mother-in-law, Irene Moore of Winchendon. Two brother in laws and two sister in laws, Johnny Moore of Leominster, Mike Moore of Fitchburg, Nancy Williams of Fitzwilliam NH and Maureen Moore of Charlestown, many nieces, nephews , aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends in the United States and Canada.
The Cormier family would like to thank Dr Christopher Lathan MD, Pamela Calarese APRN, Stephanie Benoint RN and all the staff at Dana Farber Cancer Institute for their care and support during Paul's illness. All the Dr's and nurses at Leominster Hospital for caring for Paul during his most recent stay and keeping him with us long enough to meet his new granddaughter. Lisa Davis RN, Sarah and the Gardner VNA hospice for all of their compassionate support. You truly are angels. They would especially like to thank Ed Zephir, Donna Cosenza and all the employees of United Solutions, for their understanding, compassion and generosity throughout this horrible ordeal. United Solutions went above and beyond. They were there for Paul from the beginning to the end. Your kindness will never be forgotten. We couldn't have done this without you. We know you truly loved Paul and knew what an amazing man he was., and we love you all for that. He is now our guardian angel and will watch over us until it's our time to join him. Until we meet again my love...............
