WINCHENDON – Paula Hassam, 63, of 249 Mill Glen Road, formerly of Gardner, died unexpectedly Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at her residence.
She was born in Boston, MA on July 3, 1956, daughter of the late Eugene N. and Virginia (MacArthur) Hassam and grew up in Gardner. Paula was a 1974 graduate of Cushing academy and a 1978 graduate of Boston College.
Paula had worked as a social worker in Boston at the Bournewood Rehabilitation Center and later worked as a social worker in Berwick, Maine. In 1991, she returned to Gardner and worked as an office manager in a Fitchburg medical office. Paula moved to Winchendon in March. She enjoyed cooking, planting flowers and was a huge cat lover.
She leaves a sister, Jennifer Kirwan and her husband Wayne of Winchendon; a cherished niece, who was her pride and joy, Haleigh K. Kirwan; an uncle Paul MacArthur of Westborough, an aunt Lila MacArthur of FL, and her cousins, Rosemary Maloney of Fairfax VA, Steven Maloney of Medford, Lauren Montenegro of Upton, Lynne Atkinson of Westborough, Leila MacArthur of Orlando FL, and Freda Lee of Frisco, TX.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 31, 2019 at 2 P.M. in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Gardner at a later date.
A calling hour will be held Saturday from 1 to 2 P.M. preceding the funeral.
