RINDGE, NH - Paul A. Lafrennie, 79, of 420 Middle Winchendon Road, Rindge, NH, died peacefully Sunday evening, February 8th at the home of his stepdaughter, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Winchendon on March 20,1929, the son of the late Allen J. and Matilda (Watson) Lafrennie and lived in Rindge for 31 years. Paul was a foreman at Winchendon Furniture Company and then worked as a machinist at L.S. Starrett Co. in Athol for several years until his retirement in 1992. He also tended bar for many years at the former Twin Hill Cafe and Cabin Cafe, both of Winchendon. Paul proudly served his country with two stints of active duty. He served in the United States Navy from 1947 to 1950. In 1951, he reenlisted in the Army, serving until his discharge in 1953. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and American Defense Medal. He was a member and Past Commander of the Lt. Frederick Wilder White Post 2158 VFW and was a member of Eugene M. Connor Post 193 American Legion. Paul also belonged to the Winchendon Rod and Gun Club and had candlepin bowled for several years. He had been a member of the 48 Club and enjoyed playing cards and doing jig saw and crossword puzzles. He leaves his wife, Leda G. (Lafreniere) Bartlett Lafrennie, with whom he celebrated their 31st wedding anniversary this past December; five sons, Stephen P. Lafrennie, Paul A. Lafrennie Jr and his wife Florence, Mark A. Lafrennie, Joseph M. Lafrennie and his wife Tekla and Timothy J. Lafrennie, all of Winchendon; his stepchildren, Donna L. Shooster and her husband David of Media, PA., Norma J. Rocheleau and her husband George of Winchendon, Norman E. Bartlett and his wife Rhonda of Orange, Brian K. Bartlett and his wife Kimberly of Winchendon and Bert Young and his wife Ann of TN, 35 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. His first wife, Rita M. (Jones) Lafrennie, died in 1974. Paul was also predeceased by two sons, Scott A. Lafrennie and Kevin J. Lafrennie; a daughter, Michelle S. Brow; a great granddaughter, Chelsea Lafrennie; a stepson, Thomas R. Bartlett, and his siblings, Maybelle A. Lafrennie, Helen D. Divoll, Francis M. Lafrennie Sr, Ralph C. Lafrennie, Charles C. Lafrennie, Allen J. Lafrennie Jr. and Mary A. Taft. Military funeral services will be conducted Friday, February 13th at 8 P.M. in the Snow-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon by members of Eugene M. Connor Post 193. Calling hours in the funeral home will be Friday, February 13th from 6 to 8 P.M. preceding the service. Interment will be in the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon.
