WINCHENDON – Paul W. Rice, 70, of 14 Joslin Road, died peacefully Saturday evening, November 29th in Heywood Hospital, Gardner, surrounded by his loving family, after a short illness.
He was born in Bluefield, West Virginia on October 6, 1944, son of the late Paul B. and Gay (Sigmon) Rice and was a resident of Winchendon for most of his life.
Paul owned and operated Paul W. Rice Construction Co. in Winchendon . He was a member and past commander of Eugene M. Connor Post #193 American Legion. Paul loved to work and his greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family and grandchildren. His hobbies included skiing and motorcycling.
During the Vietnam War, Paul proudly served in the United States Army. He received the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, Army Commendation Medal and Bronze Star Medals.
He leaves his wife of 51 years, Kathleen A. (Cote) Rice; two children, Keith P. Rice and Jessica L. Murdoch and her husband Aaron, all of Winchendon; four grandchildren, Kyle Murdoch, Kasey Murdoch, Nicholas Rice and Cobie Rice, one niece and one nephew. Two children, Brent Rice and Stephanie Rice and a sister, Pauline Rice, preceded him in death.
Calling hours in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon are Wednesday, December 3rd from 5 to 7 P.M.
Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Rindge at a later date.
