Philip C. Wead

ATHOL- Philip C. Wead, 68, of 1052 South Main Street, died Monday, February 1, 2021 at his residence, with his family at his side, having fought a short yet horrific battle with cancer.

He was born in Gardner on November 24, 1952, son of Russell Wead of Hubbardston and the late Louise (Bishop) Wead and was a 1971 graduate of Quabbin Valley Regional High School. He lived in Fitchburg for many years and moved to Athol last year.

Phil worked as a machinist for thirty-three years at Continental Feed Screw Co. of Gardner, leaving only after being struck ill. A talented musician, songwriter, Phil enjoyed singing and playing the guitar, and had played in various local bands. He, with his wife, volunteered with a small animal rescue, and together they spent many hours on the road saving them.

In addition to his father, Russell Wead Sr. of Hubbardston, he leaves his wife of 26 years, Robin (Perron) Wead; five children, Chantell Fleck and her husband Timothy of Phillipston, Nadine Wead of Gardner, Kyle Wead and his wife Chelsea of Leland, NC, Krisandra Wead of Leominster and Philip C. Wead Jr of Athol; his siblings, Dennis Wead and his wife Donna of Smyrna, TN, Phyllis Aubuchont and her husband Pete of Leupp, AZ, Russell Wead Jr of Roanoke, VA and Clifton Earle Wead of Smyrna, Delaware; three grandchildren, Anthony, Oliver and Sayuri and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Saturday, February 6, 2021 from 3 to 5 P.M. in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon.

Masks and social distancing are required.
