PETERSHAM – Phyllis J. (Coderre) Brown, 75, of 70 Hardwick Road, Petersham, MA died peacefully at her residence, Thursday evening, October 24th, with her family at her side. She possessed a spirited and positive attitude, which carried her and her family through her 7 year battle with cancer.
She was born in Gardner, MA on January 7, 1938, daughter of the late Felix J. and Muriel L. (Cormier) Coderre and was a 1956 graduate of Templeton High School. She was a resident of Petersham, MA and spent her winters as an active member at Kings Gate retirement community in Nokomis, FL.
Phyllis was employed for several years as office manager of CAPS Educational Collaborative School in Gardner. She previously worked for the MA Department of Unemployment, and held hospital admissions and administrative roles prior to that.
Phyllis’s greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family. She maintained that family bond, even at times when her children were scattered across the country. She was an accomplished quilter, winning many quilt show awards. She was a member of several quilting guilds where she shared her knowledge and made charity quilts for those in need. She also lovingly made quilts for all of the special people in her life.
Phyllis and her late husband of almost 50 years, Richard (Dick) Brown, met in Templeton High School doing what they loved most, dancing to big band music. They continued to share this passion throughout their marriage. They also loved to travel, and their journeys took them to vacations in the tropics, the Asian Pacific and many adventurous trips across the country in their motor home.
Phyllis was a woman of deep faith and was an active member of the Venice Presbyterian Church, Venice, FL, where she worshiped and volunteered.
She leaves three children, Sharon Carrier and her husband Douglas of Petersham, MA, Steve Brown and his wife Nellie of Long Beach, CA and Suzanne Brown and her life partner Paul Gammons of Revere,MA; her brothers and sisters, Duanne Misner and Marcelle Phillips of WA, Roger Coderre of MI, Renee Coderre and Ray Coderre of CA; and her in-laws Donna and Robert Sans and Clayton “Skip” Brown of Baldwinville MA and many nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 31st at 11 A.M. in Petersham Orthodox Congregational Church, 21 North Main Street, Petersham MA. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Baldwinville.
Calling hours in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon are Wednesday, October 30th from 6 to 8 P.M.
