Winchendon-Raymond C. Clapp, 83, died peacefully Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at Alliance
Health Baldwinville Nursing Home after an illness.
He was the husband of the late Lillian A. (Brow) who died in 2012. They shared 54 years of
marriage.
Raymond leaves his two daughters, Jill R. Macarelli and her husband Stephen of Winchendon
and Sherry J. Kiedaisch and her husband Christopher of Leominster. He also leaves five
grandchildren: Tyler Macarelli, Brock Macarelli, Nathan Macarelli, Nicholas Macarelli, Nicholas
Kiedaisch, and many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by a son, Keith R. Clapp in 1978; a daughter, Lynn A. Clapp in 1993 along
with two brothers, Kenneth Clapp who died in the invasion of Normandy, and Gerald Clapp.
Raymond was born in Winchendon on January 17, 1940, a son of the late Frederick and
Pheobe (Mawhinne) Clapp. Raymond graduated from Murdock High School class of 1958. He
was the president of his class. As a high school student, he enjoyed many sports and was the
quarterback on his football team and a pitcher for the baseball team. He was the first member
inducted into the Murdock High School Hall of Fame. He went on to play baseball and pitched
during his college years at Dean Junior College.
Raymond was co-owner of Toy Town Furniture Factory Outlet in Winchendon, MA for many
years until his retirement. During his retirement, he and his wife always loved to travel. He
enjoyed watching sports, but most of all going to his grandchildren’s sporting events and
activities. Throughout his many years as a long-term Winchendon resident, he was one of the
youngest members to join the school committee. In addition to serving on the school committee,
he also served as a member of the board of selectmen in Winchendon. Later in his years, he
was a voluntary member of the Winchendon School board of directors.
Private funeral services and burial will be in the spring at the Calvary Cemetery in Winchendon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Raymond’s honor to the Murdock High
School Boosters Club – 3 Memorial Dr., Winchendon, Ma. 01475 Attn: Boosters Donation in
Memory of Raymond Clapp.
