WINCHENDON – Raymond J. McLean, 91, formerly of Winchendon and Templeton, died peacefully Saturday morning in Genesis Westford House in Westford with his family at his side.
He was born in Worcester on November 9, 1922, son of the late James A. and Edith M. (Mitchell) McLean and was a 1940 graduate of Millbury High School. After his graduation from high school, Ray proudly served as Boatswain’s Mate 2nd Class in the United States Navy during World War Two.
Ray worked for many years as a junior engineer for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of Park Church in Worcester. Active in Masonic affairs, Ray was past master of Artisan Lodge of Masons and was past district deputy grand master of the Barre 13th Masonic district. Ray was also a past master of Lodge of Instruction and was a holder of Joseph Warren Medal and his 50 year jewel. Ray was a Scottish Rite 32nd degree and a member of the York Rite.
A former resident of Templeton, Ray was former Co-President of Narragansett PTA and a former little league coach. He also served as a member of Templeton Finance Committee. Ray moved to Winchendon in 1995.
He leaves his wife of 68 years, Shirley (Duby) McLean; three sons, Barton A. McLean and his wife Peggy of Altoona, FL, James G. “Jay” Mclean and his wife Ann of Haleiwa, Hawaii, Thomas A. McLean of Chester, VT; a daughter, Beverly M. Doucette and her husband Skip of Chelmsford; a sister, Beverly Cambridge of Beverly; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held Friday, January 10th from 4 to 6 P.M. followed by a Masonic Funeral Service at 6 P.M. in Artisan Lodge of Masons, 319 School Street, Winchendon.
Burial will be in Central Cemetery, Millbury at a later date.
