Raymond W. Thomas

WINCHENDON – Raymond W. Thomas, 84, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2013 at UMASS/ Memorial Medical Center, University Campus, after a brief illness, with his family at his side.
He was born in Newton, MA on May 22, 1928, son of Benjamin and Catherine (Taffe) Thomas of Newton, MA. He is survived by his wife, Janet (Streeter) Thomas, to whom he was married for 61 years. He also leaves their two children and their families, Susan (Thomas) Hitchcock and her husband Charles Hitchcock, Jr of Sterling and grandsons, Charles G. Hitchcock III and Andrew T. Hitchcock, and their son, Gary S. Thomas of Palm Coast, FL and grandchildren, Rebecca Stratford and Kyle Thomas. Raymond was predeceased by his brothers, Benjamin and Richard Thomas.
Raymond was employed as a salesman by the Boston-based S.S. Pierce Company for many years and later became the proprietor of the Reliable Package Store in Winchendon.
He played hockey in the Senior Mens League and greatly enjoyed his time on the golf course at the Winchendon School Country Club. Raymond’s gentle, joyous and accepting Irish personality and his love of all things that involved his family are the qualities that everyone experienced as a friend, husband, father and grandfather.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon on Saturday, May 11th at 11 A.M. The Rev. F. Calvin Miller will officiate.
The family requests that flowers be omitted. Memorial donations may be made to Clark Memorial YMCA, 155 Central Street, Winchendon, MA 01475 for children/family memberships.
