PHILLIPSTON - Richard A. Chattin, 79, of 160 Athol Road, Phillipston, died Friday morning, July 27th in the Baldwinville Nursing Home, Baldwinville after a long battle with prostate cancer. He was born in Stanton, New Jersey on July 24,1928, the son of Laurie and Catherine (Cuthbertson) Chattin and had lived in Phillipston for 13 years. Richard attended Penn. State and was a dairy farmer for 20 years. For the rest of his career, he was a salesman, selling fertilizer to farmers and industrial and farm equipment, such as screeners, crushers and grinders. His sales territory included New England and New Jersey. He was a member of the Phillipston Congregational Church and was a former member and trustee of the Memorial Congregational Church in Baldwinville, where he was involved in its restoration. His hobbies included fishing, golf, gardening, hunting and watching the Red Sox. He leaves his wife of 13 years, Martha (Wise) Craft Chattin; six children, Michael Chattin and his wife Cathy of Windham Township, PA, Daniel Chattin and his wife Linda of Harwinton, CT, Scott Chattin and his wife Dee of Middle River, MD, Wendy Porter and her husband Craig of Center Valley, PA, Holly Bisbee and her husband Paul of Red Level, AL and Sheree Stuart and her husband Patrick of Sebago, ME; four brothers, Laurie Chattin and his wife Edyth of Weisenberg Township, PA, twin brothers Bruce Chattin and Kent Chattin of Weisenberg Township, PA and Donald Chattin and his wife, Marie of Schnecksville, PA,; two sisters, Barbara Fuller of Ely, NV and Sandra Munroe and her husband, Dr. Richard Munroe of Littleton, NH; five grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday, August 4th in the Phillipston Congregational Church, Phillipston Common with the Rev. Stephanie Flynn officiating. Burial will follow in Lower Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 3rd from 6 to 8 P.M. in the Snow-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon.
