Richard E. Tavares

September 19, 1945 — January 1, 2015

WINCHENDON – Richard E. “Dickie” Tavares, 69, of 42 Woodlawn Avenue, died unexpectedly at his residence Thursday, January 1st.

He was born in Acushnet, MA on September 19, 1945, son of George Tavares of Falmouth and the late Annabelle L. (Morin) Tavares Smith and had been a resident of Winchendon since the age of twelve.

Dickie worked as a machinist at H&R Gun Factory in Gardner until his retirement at the age of 62.  He previously worked as a painter at Alaska Freezer and Monadnock Fabrication.  His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family and he also enjoyed reading his bible daily and watching television.

In addition to his father, he leaves his wife of 47 years, Lynda-Lee (Greenough) Tavares; four children, Tony R. Tavares and his wife Pat of Winchendon, Mia C. Parks and her husband Scott of Jaffrey, N H, Jason E. Tavares and his wife Charlene of Winchendon and Derek S. Tavares and his wife Crystal of Winchendon; three brothers, David G. Tavares of Winchendon, James R. Tavares and his wife Anna of Winchendon and Paul S. Tavares and his wife Laurel of Winchendon; a sister, Gaynor M. Tavares and her husband George Ouellette of Fitzwilliam, NH; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 6th at 10 A.M. in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street.  The Rev. Jay Lillie will officiate.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Calling hours in the funeral Home are Monday, January 5th from 5 to 7 P.M.
