GARDNER - Richard F. Sawyer, 83, of 104 Conant Street, Gardner, formerly of Winchendon, died at his residence Thursday morning, June 28th on his 60th wedding anniversary, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Winchendon on August 20,1923, the son on Arthur H. and Helen (Allen) Sawyer and had lived in Gardner for 17 years. Dick graduated from Murdock High School in Winchendon with the Class of 1941 and served in the United States Army in the European and Asiatic-Pacific Theatre during World War Two. Dick worked as an inspector for the New England Telephone Company and Verizon for 38 years until his retirement in 1986. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Winchendon Country Club. Dick was a member of the Lt. Frederick Wilder White Post 2158 VFW, Winchendon. He leaves his wife of 60 years, Teresa A. (Mello) Sawyer; a son, Richard F. Sawyer 2nd of Bluemont, VA; three daughters, Pamela J. Evans of Woodchester, VA., Rebecca A. Robichaud of Mansfield, CT and Marcia M. Klash of Gardner; nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. Private funeral services will be held in the Snow-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon. Burial will be in the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon. There are no calling hours.
