WINCHENDON – Richard G. Paradise, 64, of 265 West Street, died peacefully Thursday evening, April 9th, at UMASS Memorial Medical Center, Worcester.  His long-time companion and a friend were by his side.

Richard was a 1968 graduate of Murdock High School Winchendon.  He proudly served as a member of the United States Coast Guard from 1968 to his retirement in 1988 as a chief petty officer.  He was stationed at numerous ports around the United States, including Cape Cod, Key West, Memphis, TN, Boston, Portsmouth, Kodiak, Alaska and Hawaii.

Richard, a/k/a/ “The Chief” enjoyed favorite activities, which were deep sea fishing, working on cars and motorcycle riding with his friend Gary, watching the Red Sox and Patriots games, pinochle with his friends Craig, Eagle and Bill, and tending his bird feeders and yard care at his home, where he lived with his longtime companion, visiting with his favorite cousin Beth and Aunt Lorraine, hanging out with his buddy Steve Avery, having lunch at his cousin Steve’s restaurant, and driving to Maine for visits with his best Coast Guard buddy, Floyd and wife Bonnie.  He also traveled cross country for many years.

Richard leaves his longtime companion, Sandra LaClair of Winchendon; his mother Aurore Paradise of Winchendon; a brother, Louis Paradise of Orange and a brother Lionel Paradise of NH, together with several aunts, uncles and cousins.  Richard’s father, Lionel Paradise, died in 1983.

Military funeral services will be held Thursday, April 16th at 1 PM in Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street.

Calling hours in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, are Wednesday, April 15th from 5 to 7 P.M.
