WINCHENDON – Richard I. Lord, 92, formerly of 96 Ipswich Drive, died peacefully Sunday morning, February 15th in Quabbin Valley Healthcare, Athol, with his family at his side.

He was born in Winchendon on February 4, 1923, son of the late Ira A. and Annie D. (Tuttle) Lord and graduated from Murdock High School in 1941.  Dick enlisted in the United States Army in 1943 and proudly served his country during World War Two as a staff sergeant and radio operator.  He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, American Theatre Campaign Ribbon and Victory Medal.

Dick worked for 25 years at New Hampshire Ball Bearings in Peterborough, NH, retiring as a supervisor in 1984.  He previously worked as a projectionist at the former Capital Theatre.  He was a long time member of the United Parish and had been a member of its pastoral relations committee and trust fund.  He was a member for over 60 years of Eugene M. Connor Post 193 American Legion, a long time member of Winchendon Historical Society and was a former member of Lt. Frederick Wilder White Post 2158 VFW and the Odd Fellows.  Dick was very family oriented and was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

His wife of 72 years, Anita M. (LaPointe) Lord, died August of last year.  He leaves four daughters, Judith A. Hitchings and her husband Ron of Keene, NH, Patricia Walter of Concord, NH, Wendy D. Shapiro and her husband James of Acworth, GA and Kimberly D. Luhtjarv and her husband Roland of Winchendon; nine grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild as well as many nieces and nephews.  A son-in-law, Glenn A. Walter and his siblings, Elizabeth Herr, Lawrence Lord and Rachel Lemmer, preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 20th at 11 AM in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon.  A calling hour will precede the funeral service Friday from 10 to 11 AM.

Burial, with military honors, will be in Riverside Cemetery in the spring.
