GARDNER – Richard L. “Trig” Tourigny, 82, of 185 Bickford Hill Road, Gardner, died peacefully at home, Wednesday evening, December 14th, with his family and friends at his side.
He was born in Lancaster, PA on June 26, 1929, the son of the late Leander and Marjorie (Kinsman) Tourigny and had lived in Gardner for most of his life.
Trig was a 1948 graduate of Gardner High School and proudly served in the United State Air Force from 1950 to 1957. After fulfilling his military obligation, Trig graduated from Fitchburg State College in 1958, receiving his Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Arts. He then taught Industrial Arts in Warwick, RI and at Oakmont Regional High School in Ashburnham. In 1962, Trig joined ER Carpenter Co., where he served as New England Manager of Fabricating and Molding. In 1990, he and his wife formed Trigg Realty, where he served as President and Treasurer until 2005.
Active in the Gardner community for many years, Trig was a long time member of the Gardner Museum, a long standing board member of the Knowlton Foundation for the Elderly and was a former Past President, Treasurer and member of the Gardner Lions Club. He had been a member of American Legion Post #129 for over 50 years. He served as a board member of Gardner Visiting Nursing Association, and was a long-time member of the Gardner Boat Club, Gardner Rotary Club, Monomonac Sporting Club, Chair City Club and the Wednesday Golf Group. Trig was part of the group, which formed the Gardner-Athol Mental Health Association. He had also been active with Boy Scout Troup 5.
Trig was an avid skier and golf enthusiast. He also enjoyed cooking and working in his home workshop. He was most proud of his family and grandchildren.
He leaves his wife of 59 years, Barbara J. (Tefft) Tourigny; four children, Suzanne L. Tourigny of Pittsfield, Jay S. Tourigny and his wife Patricia of Canton, CT, Barry K. Tourigny and his wife Debra of Proctorville, OH and Ross R. Tourigny and his wife Kathy of Fitzwilliam, NH and ten grandchildren, Daniel Carmel, Ivy Carmel, Katherine Brites, Andrew Tourigny, Cheryl Tourigny, Seth Tourigny, Levi Tourigny, Sage Tourigny, and Danielle Story, Nicole Tourigny and their mother Ann Tourigny, and several nephews and nieces. A sister, Beatrice DuPont, predeceased him.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 19th at 10 A.M. in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon. The Rev. Barry Risto will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will follow in the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon.
Calling hours in the funeral home will be Sunday, December 18th from 2 to 4 P.M.
