WINCHENDON – Robert E. Wakefield, 75, of 225 Teel Road, Winchendon, died peacefully Sunday morning, March 24th at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Winchendon on January 5, 1938, son of the late Alvin J. and Madalene C. (Dunham) Wakefield and lived in Winchendon for most of his life.
Bob owned and operated his own drywall business many years ago and later worked as a machine operator at General Electric and L.S. Starrett Company in Athol. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy from 1956 until his honorable discharge in 1960. Bob was an avid sports fan and enjoyed fishing and playing cards. An avid animal lover, Bob especially loved his pug, Starlite. Most importantly, he treasured time with his family.
He leaves his wife of 27 years, Katherine A. (Sibley) Wakefield; six children, Susan Furr of Keene, NH, Barbara Goodwin and her husband Randy of Winchendon, Robert E. Wakefield Jr of Winchendon, Lori Robidoux of Fitzwilliam, NH, Joseph Wakefield and his wife Amy of Swanzey, NH, and Kayla Fleurant and her husband Robert of Winchendon; five stepchildren, Terrance Monahan of Winchendon, Ron Monahan of Winchendon, Kathy Parkhurst of Fitzwilliam, Paula Eddy and her husband Donald of Winchendon and Christina Lindgren of Winchendon, as well as 13 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Military funeral services will be held Friday, March 29th at 2 PM in Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon. There are no calling hours.
