GARDNER – Robert J. Roy, 83, of 104 Church Street, died peacefully Saturday evening, January 31st in Wachusett Manor Nursing Home.
He was born in Templeton on January 7, 1932, son of the late Edgar J. and Alfreda M. (Dubois) Roy and was a graduate of Gardner High School.
Bob was a self-employed carpenter in the Gardner area. An avid sportsman, he was a member of Otter River Sportsmen’s Club and was one of the founders of Gardner Youth Hockey League. At one time, he coached little league, Babe Ruth and Legion baseball. Bob proudly served his country during the Korean War as a member of the United States Air Force.
He leaves three children, Gary R. Roy and his wife Jennifer of Gardner, Jeff Roy and his wife Cherrie of Ashburnham and Tina Georgeades and her husband Paul of Florida; seven grandchildren, Sarah Frediani, Elissa Roy, Justin Roy, Makenzie Roy, Johnna Roy, Ean Roy and Christina Georgeades; five great grandchildren; his brothers, Edward Roy and his wife Pat of Phillipston and Donald Duval and his wife Brenda of Winchendon; his sisters Leah Chartier of Gardner and Annette Grenier of Westminster and many nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Ronald L. Roy and Ralph Roy, predeceased him.
Military funeral services will be held in Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon. There are no calling hours.
