VERO BEACH, FL – Robert L. Slavin, 95, of Vero Beach, FL and formerly of Winchendon, died peacefully at his residence, Monday morning, June 25th with his family at his side.

He was born in Athol, MA on August 9, 1916, son of the late William F. and Ruth L. (Martin) Slavin and had lived in Vero Beach since 1984.

Bob was a well known and respected pharmacist in Winchendon for many years.  He owned and operated the former Slavin’s Pharmacy for many years until his retirement in 1978.  Bob was active in several organizations in town.  He was a life member and Past Commander of Eugene M. Connor Post #193 American Legion and was a life member of Lt. Frederick Wilder White Post# 2158 VFW.  He was a former Selectman in the Town of Winchendon and was a member of the town’s Finance Committee for 20 years.  He was also a member of The United Parish, a member and past treasurer of Artisan Lodge of Masons and a member of the Democratic Town Committee.

A 1935 graduate of Murdock High School, Bob graduated from Mt. Herman Prep School in 1936 and Bentley School of Accounting in 1939.  During World War Two, Bob proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army Air Corps.  He served in the Air Offensive in Europe and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Ribbon and a Distinguished Unit Badge.

He leaves his wife, Connie B. (Johnson-Clark) Slavin, whom he married December 10, 2004; two sons, William R. Slavin and his wife Linda of Mooresville, NC and Gary R. Slavin and his wife Joanne of Charlotte, NC; two daughters, Susan P. Slavin of Leominster and Patricia A. Josselyn and her husband Jay of Chapel Hill, NC and seven grandchildren.  His first wife of 49 years, Sylvia E. (Pellonpaa) Slavin and his brother, Phillip Slavin, predeceased him.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 30th at 11 AM in The United Parish, 39 Front Street, Winchendon.  The Rev. F. Calvin Miller will officiate.  Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery.

Calling hours in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon are Friday, June 29th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M.  Members of Eugene M. Connor Post #193 American Legion will conduct Legion Services at 6:30 PM and members of Artisan Lodge of Masons will conduct Masonic funeral services at 7:30 P.M. Friday evening.
