DENTON, N.C. - Robert M. Potter, 70, of 22870 Highway 109 South, Denton NC, formerly of Winchendon, died Sunday, June 20th in the Thomasville Medical Center, Thomasville, NC, following a sudden illness. He was born in Gardiner, Maine on January 27, 1940, the son of Eleanor (Dyer) Potter of Winchendon and the late Max E. Potter, and had lived in Denton for 19 years. He previously lived in Winchendon for 30 years. Bob worked in the furniture industry for many years. While living in Winchendon, he worked as a finisher for Level Manufacturing Co. After moving to North Carolina, he worked in shipping and receiving for DarRan Furniture Company in High Point and later worked for Legette-Pratte Furniture Company until his retirement. Following his retirement, Bob delivered school buses around the country while working for QRT Inc. He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1958 to 1960. He was a member of New Beginning Church in Denton and sung on its Praise Team. He also sang in the Lost and Found Southern Gospel Group. Bob enjoyed playing cards, yard work and enjoyed helping people in the community. He especially enjoyed his trips to Massachusetts, visiting his family and attending his grandchildren's sporting events. Bob earned his GED degree in Fitchburg many years ago. In addition to his mother, he leaves his wife of 48 years, Jane (Pepin) Potter; three daughters, Lisa Marie Murphy and her husband Paul of Winchendon, Dawn M. Fitzmaurice of North Grafton, and Robin M. Hicks of Winchendon; five grandchildren, Tabitha S. Fournier, Cassandra L. Murphy, Tyler Max Fitzmaurice, Tess E. Fitzmaurice and Justin Robert Hicks; one great grandson, Ayden Murphy Fournier, as well as nephews and nieces. A brother, Ellery F. Potter, died in 2008. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 25th at 12 Noon in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon. The Rev. Dr. Phil Wahl will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will be in the Massachusetts Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon. A reception will follow in Bethany Bible Chapel, 727 Spring Street.
