GARDNER - Robert R. Charland, 80, of 193 Barthel Avenue, died peacefully Friday afternoon, November 10, 2017 in Gardner Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Gardner. His family was at his side.
He was born in Gardner on May 7, 1937, son of the late Louis and Rita (Moison) Charland and was a lifelong resident of Gardner. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam War
Bob worked as a postal carrier in the City of Gardner for many years until his retirement. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He enjoyed walking and playing cribbage and pool as well as other activities at the Gardner Senior Center.
He leaves his wife of 28 years, Geraldine (Salo) Charland; four stepchildren, Katrina Hayko and her husband Stephen of Tega Cay, SC, Richard Buskey Jr and his wife Amy of Portsmouth, RI, Paul Buskey and his wife Sarah of Woonsocket, RI and Neil Buskey and his wife Kristie of Cumberland, RI; a brother, Francis Charland and his wife Sandra of Leominster; three sisters, Priscilla Valliere of East Templeton, Gloria Bourgeois of Gardner and Judith Roberts and her husband Sonny of FL, eleven grandchildren, three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, November 16, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. in Annunciation Parish, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial, with military honors, will follow in the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon.
