Robert W. Gould

ASHBURNHAM - Robert W. Gould, 79, of 17 Depot Road, Ashburnham, died peacefully at his residence, surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, December 18th. He was born in Fitchburg, MA. on December 22,1928, the son of the late William H. and Ingrid (Sulin) Gould, and had lived in Ashburnham for many years. Bob was the manager of Town of Ashburnham Light Department until his retirement. He had worked for the Town of Ashburnham for 24 years, after previously working from 1957-1971 as an electrician for Local #256 in Fitchburg. Bob was also a long-time wiring inspector for the town. He was a charter member and Past President of the Ashburnham Lions Club and once served as a zone chairman in Lions District 33A. Bob was active in the Democratic Town Committee in Ashburnham and was its former chairman. Bob proudly served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War Two and served in the Army in the Korean War. He enjoyed fishing and had spent the last ten winters in Lantana, Florida. He leaves his wife of 57 years, Doris "Midge" (Waltz) Gould; six children, Robert W, Gould 2nd of Ashburnham, Sheila C. Mariano and her husband Steve of Westminster, Donna M. Gould of Ashburnham, Michael J. Gould of Winchendon, Scott T. Gould of Ashburnham and Todd P. Gould and his wife Serena of Ashburnham; a brother, Richard F. Gould of Ashburnham, eleven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Pamela N. Smith of Ashburnham, who died in 2007; a sister, Dorothy C. Bancroft; a grandson, Brandon S. Gould, U.S. Marine Corps, who died in 2004, and a son-in-law, Vince Smith, who died in 1983. Funeral services are private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Burial will be in the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon.
