GARDNER - Ronald A. "Ron" Levesque, 70, of 11540 30th Cove East, Parrish, FL and Wells, Maine, formerly of Gardner, died Sunday, August 29th, on his 70th birthday, in Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford, Maine with his family at his side.

Ron was born in Gardner on August 29, 1940, the son of the late Onesime B. and Cecile M. (Lavigne) Levesque and lived in Gardner for most of his life. He attended Gardner schools and graduated from Gardner High School in 1958, where he was a member of the famed 1950's football team dynasty. He served in the United States Coast Guard from 1959 to 1963 during the Vietnam War and participated in the Cuban Missile Crisis Blockade in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Ron retired in 2001 from Wheelen Supply Company in Gardner, where he was general manager and a board of director for many years. Ron was a member of the American Legion Post #129 and was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #905 in Gardner. He was an avid Harley Davidson motorcycle enthusiast. Ron enjoyed researching family genealogy, polka dancing and working around the yard with his tractor. He was a graduate of Worcester Junior College and of Mount Wachusett Community College. Ron was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots and was a member of the Gardner Pistol Club and was a former City of Gardner Call Fire Fighter. He was known for his sense of humor and sharp wit. He will be remembered as a gentle man, who put others before himself.

He leaves his wife of six years, Sandra (Bisbee-Dines) Levesque, former Police Chief of the Town of Athol; a son, Lance Levesque of Harrisville, NH; two daughters, Heather Levesque and her fiance Fred Pomerleau of Gardner and Heidi Hardy and her husband Steven of Templeton; three grandchildren, Abigail, Tanner and Alyssa Hardy of Templeton; a step grandson Steven Hardy and a step granddaughter, Kaitlynn Hardy of Arizona; a brother, Robert Levesque and his wife Lee; four nieces, Jacqui Morgan, Monique Sullivan, Michelle Ulwelling and Nicole Diez, his beloved aunt, Esther Angeloni, cousins, grandnephews and grandnieces, all of California, Oregon and Washington.

A Memorial Service will be held Friday, September 10th at 10 A.M. in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon. The Rev. Susan Suchocki-Brown will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will be in the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon. Calling hours will be held Thursday, September 9th from 5 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
